Leadership – We Three Kings

Three wise men were making a journey. Following their vision. They were following the star.
So the story goes.

As we come to the holiday season, it makes sense to reflect on the year just finishing.
It also makes sense to slow down and think about the future.
Let’s plan for what we really want and make it happen.

However, here is the niggle. Nothing gets done unless we consciously make an effort to make it so.
Have you noticed how the leadership discussions seem to pop up everywhere?

For instance, my neighbour and I were chatting earlier in the year. He’d just returned from a caravan touring holiday and we had recently moved back into our home after renting elsewhere for 18 months. There was much to catch up on.

A few glasses of wine later, we found ourselves talking about one of our mutual favourite subjects, leadership.

“What is the best way to explain leadership, so it’s easy to understand?” he asked. “Here try this”, he offered.

The Visionary. “We are going over there”.
The King. “I will lead. Follow me”.
The Counsellor. “I am part of the team. Let’s do it together”.

“Not bad. Not bad at all. Perhaps worth sharing with others”, I said.

The Three Wise Men were clearly leaders.
• They chose to follow a vision. “We need to follow that star. Go there”.
• They led the way. “I am a king. I am moving forward”.
• They worked as a team. “I am part of the team. Let’s get going.”

For 2024, when you adopt the leadership mantle again, what will your preferred leadership style be?
